Mission Possible

When you hear the theme song or see the title Mission Impossible, depending upon your age, you automatically think of either Peter Graves or Tom Cruise. These two actors are most famous for the Mission Impossible Series. This series of television shows and movies has given us all a glimpse of the world of espionage. If we look at it even closer it has also given us some key things we can use as believers in Christ, as we live life and share the gospel:

  • You must be able to focus….even when in enemy territory…
  • Everybody is not neccesarily who they appear to be…..
  • In times of trouble you must realize who your team is and be able to rely on them

In all my years of watching Mission Impossible, I have never seen an assignment not accepted….so as followers of Christ, what assingment have we been given? It is the assignment that has been given to the church that has never changed…The Great Commission, where we have been charged to teach ALL nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Since this is the command given by Christ, then our only option is to obey the assingment that has been given. As we examine closely the Great Commission we see four elements:

The Announcement….after Christ has risen he makes an announcement, this is key as it shows he is alive…we need to realize we serving a LIVE God! We also see that he comes in Authority…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth…everyone respects authority, we clamor for it, we cling to it, some even worship it. So as Christ makes this announcement he attaches it to heaven. This Assignment should not be optional to the believer, we do not have a choice of accepting or rejecting this assignment. Sharing the gospel has to become as natural as breathing. We should be comforted in knowing that not only does he give this assignment with complete instructions of where and how…he promises to be with us ALWAYS….knowing that the spirit of the Lord resides with us should empower us as we attempt to complete this mission. The key is have you accepted the mission or do you think it is impossible?

Matthew 28:18-20
